Some shirts never really leave you. You remember the colours before you remember the score: the bright red of a Saturday afternoon, the yellow away shirt that looked mad then and looks perfect now, the navy and maroon that only made sense once you saw it under floodlights. The early and mid-90s were the golden era of English football kits, and we think your dog deserves a piece of it.
This is a quick tour of the English designs in our Collars collection: where the colours come from, who each collar suits, and how to get the fit right before the next away day.
Why the 90s still win
The 90s were when football shirts got loud. Bold collars, big graphic prints, shadow stripes and colourways nobody had tried before. At the time half of them were laughed at. Thirty years later, fans hunt them down in vintage shops and pay silly money for the originals.
That is the feeling we wanted to bottle. Every Away Day Hounds collar takes its colours from a classic shirt of the era and cuts it down to dog size. No crests, no names, just the colours fans know by heart. If you know, you know. And if your dog doesn't know, they'll still look the part at the park.
Merseyside: deep red, done properly

Few colours say English football quite like a deep red with white trim. Our Merseyside '90 collar is built on that look, inspired by the classic kits of 1990. It's for the dog who knows every terrace song, or at least howls along.
Prefer something more understated? The Merseyside '91 collar swaps the red for a grey diamond pattern with red detail, taken from an early-90s shirt that fans still go looking for. Your dog won't care about the provenance, but they'll appreciate the soft padded lining.
Manchester: a new decade

1990 opened a new decade, and the Manchester kits of the time had a swagger to match. The Manchester '90 collar comes in blue and white zigzags and is for the dog who treats every walk like a big home match: chest out, tail up, first to the gate.
Three years on, the Manchester '93 collar brings the bolder look of the early 90s in green and yellow halves. It's as dependable as your best winger on a cold night, and a lot better behaved.
North London: the away shirt that divided opinion

Every fan has an away shirt they defend against all comers. For plenty of people it's a bright early-90s North London number that split opinion then and sells out now. The North London '92 collar is our nod to it, in yellow and navy zigzags: bold, unapologetic, and made for dogs who like to be seen coming.
For something darker, the North London '96 collar takes its cue from the mid-90s with navy and teal lightning bolts. It's comfortable at the neck thanks to soft padding and a fully adjustable fit, with no-nonsense hardware.
The North East: navy and maroon

Some away kits are remembered for the football played in them. The mid-90s North East away colours of navy and maroon are one of those. The Newcastle '95 collar is for the dog who plays with flair and never parks the bus. It's a little different and it's a real conversation starter on the morning walk.
More from England
The English range doesn't stop there. You'll also find green, red and black stripes from Birmingham, purple and white from Manchester, and yellow and grey from West London, all in the Collars collection. Several designs have a matching lead, bandana and blanket, so your dog can wear the full away-day kit from walk to sofa.
Built for proper walks
Retro looks, modern build. Every collar is made the same way, whatever the colours:
- Durable polyester webbing, reinforced at the stress points
- Soft black padding on the inside for all-day comfort
- Heavy-duty quick-release buckle and metal D-ring for the lead
- Fully adjustable, and easy to wipe clean after a muddy walk
- Designed in Ireland
Getting the fit right
| Size | Neck (cm) | Neck (in) |
|---|---|---|
| Small | 30–45 | 11.8–17.8 |
| Medium | 35–52 | 13.5–20.5 |
| Large | 38–60 | 14.8–23.8 |
Measure around your dog's neck with a soft tape and add two fingers of slack. Between sizes? Go up and adjust it down. Puppies grow fast, so start the buckle near the tightest setting and give yourself room to let it out.
A proper gift for a proper fan
Got a fan in your life who talks about their dog as much as their team? A football dog collar is the gift that gets both. Pick the city, pick the era, and they're ready for kick-off.
